01The recycled plastic market is in great demand

1. Environmental protection

my country implements the development concept of "green water and green mountains are the golden mountains and silver mountains" and adheres to the basic national policy of saving resources and protecting the environment. Recycled plastics have great environmental advantages over traditional plastics.

Taking polyester as an example, the energy requirement of recycled polyester is less than 2/3 of the original, and reduces 2/3 of the sulfur dioxide and 1/2 of the nitrogen dioxide, and the water consumption is also reduced by 10 times. Conduct landfill disposal.

2. Excellent plastic performance

Plastic has excellent chemical stability, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, heat insulation, excellent shock absorption and sound absorption and sound insulation, and has good elasticity, and can be well bonded to other materials such as metal, glass, wood, etc. , Easy to process and shape.

For example, HIPS is an excellent recycled plastic on the market. Its impact strength is very high, which is more than 4 times higher than the plastic raw material abs. Its electrical insulation is also very good, HIPS is relatively easy to color, and easy to print. Moreover, the shortcomings of being particularly fragile and not resistant to impact can be solved by rubber modification.

3. The huge demand for recycled plastic

The global annual production of plastics has reached 350 million tons. China is the world's largest plastic production and consumption country, producing more than 100 million tons of plastic raw materials and more than 60 million tons of plastic consumer products.

According to the report of the consulting and research company FIORMARKETS, the global market value of recycled thermoplastics is expected to reach 104.76 billion US dollars by 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.98% from 2019 to 2026.

A medium-sized plastic woven bag factory consumes more than 2,000 tons of recycled polypropylene particles every year. Even a small individual plant needs a minimum of several million tons a year; a medium-sized shoe factory needs polyvinyl chloride (PVC recycled particles 2,000 tons, plastic The huge demand for recycled particles from product companies provides a broad market space for enterprises and individuals who establish renewable plastic recycled particle plants.

02Domestic policies boost the recycled plastics industry

At present, China has issued a number of programs and plans, such as the “Promotion Plan for Promoting Producer’s Responsibility System” issued by the State Council in 2016; Improve the producer responsibility extension system; in 2019, the State Council proposed to restrict the production, sales, and use of disposable non-degradable plastic bags and plastic tableware when expanding the pilot program for the construction of "no waste cities", and expand the scope of application of degradable plastic products; Deepen the Reform Commission's "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Control of Plastic Pollution"...

However, the supporting policies for EPR have not been fully established. In China, the entire plastic recycling system is still a model of "scavengers + municipal treatment + end recycling industry".

03Global attention, many countries have taken action

In 2018, the policies of Southeast Asian countries continued to send signals of tightening, and the market is currently on the road to bans. In 2020, Indonesia will begin 100% inspection of waste paper and plastic imports in early April. At the end of May, Malaysia has suspended applications for plastic waste permits. Vietnam suspended imports of waste plastics in June. Thailand has banned the import of recycled plastics since August 1, and can only import raw material pellets.

In the context of Europe's accelerated transition to a circular economy, the European Commission established a plastic closed-loop alliance at the end of 2018. It is intended that member countries cover the entire plastic value industry chain, from waste plastic collectors, recycling enterprises, primary producers, traders, brands Business-to-retailers are involved in the packaging industry, construction industry, and automotive industry, forming a closed-loop industrial chain. The alliance requires at least 10 million tons of recycled plastic in new products on the EU market by 2025. The European plastics strategy announced at the beginning of this year also clarified that in 2030, all plastic packaging on the EU market will be reusable or recyclable, reducing the consumption of disposable plastics and restricting more plastic particles.

Japan will also introduce a "Japanese version" of a plastic strategy aimed at reducing pollution of marine plastic waste. At present, more than 65% of the waste plastics in Japan's recycled materials are processed by heat recovery, 27% are recycled by mechanical processing, and 5% are processed by chemical recycling. With the increasing supply of waste, incineration of excess capacity has seriously affected climate warming. Therefore, Japan hopes to follow the European Union and increase the proportion of recycling.

04 Brand Corporate Action

Plastic circular economy is already the general trend, and brands and polymer companies have begun to pay attention to recycling. At present, chemical giants such as Dow, Nordic Chemicals, Ineos, SABIC, Eastman, Covestro are making significant forays into the recycled plastics industry. For example, Dow has set a supply of 100,000 tons of recycled materials to European customers in 2025 The goal of plastic products, Ineos plans to use at least 325,000 tons of recycled materials every year, Eastman provides innovative polyester recycling technology, and so on.

The growing global response to plastic pollution has pushed Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestlé and other brand companies that use a lot of plastic packaging to the forefront. The Coca-Cola Company said that by 2025, all packaging will be recyclable, reusable or compostable. Pepsi also plans to make all its product packaging recyclable, compostable or biodegradable by 2025. Nestlé has promised to increase the recycled PET content of its two drinking water brands to 50% by 2025.

After technological innovation and industrial structure adjustment, my country's recycled plastics industry is developing in the direction of high quality, multiple varieties, and high technology. The market environment for recycled plastics has already begun to take shape.

However, the supporting policy for EPR has not been fully established. In China, the entire plastic recycling system is still a model of "scavengers + municipal treatment + end recycling industry", and the recycling classification system still has great defects.

Compared with the previous ones, China's latest "Plastics Limitation Order" in 2020 has focused on the construction of an integrated plastic recycling industry chain, and proposed the establishment of a plastic recycling management system and steps to exert force from different levels. The supporting supervision, policy and technological R&D also have a relatively comprehensive framework and system planning.
