Waste plastics have a new way out! The United States, Britain, India, the Netherlands and other countries have built plastic roads

A new highway built in Oroville, California, looks like an ordinary highway, but it's the first one in the United States to use recycled plastic. The three lane highway uses about 150000 plastic bottles per mile (equivalent to 1.6 kilometers).

The advantage of using waste plastic pavement is that it can avoid the construction trucks entering and leaving the construction site, thus reducing the emissions in the logistics process and accelerating the construction speed. The traditional paving process needs heat, but the waste plastic paving process needs low temperature to save more energy.

According to reports, in the actual project, plastic road products will be more robust and durable than the test products, and the strength is 2.5 times of the test version. This makes plastic road suitable for applications such as parking lots, and the company says it is preparing its first pilot project for this particular application. The company also said it was a step toward using plastic road for cars and other road traffic.

 

 

Each plastic road template is hollow design, which can be laid with cables, pipes and sensors to facilitate power transmission. In terms of drainage, the highway module with strong water storage and drainage performance is designed. The rainwater will be transferred to the hollow layer through the space between the plastic materials, and then discharged through the hollow layer.

 

The company said it would first promote plastic road modules in the Netherlands and surrounding countries before expanding to other markets around the world.
