Recently, Nestle promised that its Buxton natural mineral water brand will be made of 100% recycled PET material (rPET). The entire product line of Buxton Natural Mineral Water will be made from 100% rPET materials by 2021.
In November, Nestle introduced 100% rPET bottles of 750 ml and 1 liter series. Other specifications of plastic bottles also currently contain at least 20% rPET.
Nestlé's actions will greatly reduce the amount of nascent plastic in circulation.
Michel Beneventi, Nestlé Drinking Water's UK business executive, said, "We are very excited to put our sustainability commitments into practice. High-quality recycled materials retain the same properties as PET, such as making plastic bottles lightweight, durable, fast rebound and 100% recyclable. "
"We wanted to quickly make all Buxton plastic bottles from recycled materials, but there are many challenges to do this-first we must ensure that the materials used are of high quality food grade."
As there is currently no corresponding facility in the UK to mass produce this rPET material, Nestlé mainly relies on rPET material suppliers outside the UK to provide recycled materials for Buxton bottles.
Beneventi added: "We want to be able to produce bottles of British drinking water in the UK. As a result, we are working with industry partners, NGOs and government agencies to increase national recycling rates, support deposit refund programs across the UK, and work with consumers Communicators talk about their recycling issues to help achieve a circular economy for plastics. "
Nestlé promises that by 2025, its packaging will be 100% recyclable or reusable.
